...at least, for 2020, anyway.
So, literally right after my last post, something crazy happened to the entire world that we couldn't have even made up if we wanted to. This new virus, hence forth now known as the coronavirus, started in China and spread rapidly around the world. To this day, there's no vaccine yet and the effects are pretty severe with a pretty high death rate, relatively speaking. To combat the spread, there's been a lockdown of everywhere in the world that gives a hoot. Basically, we're staying home unless you're working in an essential service area, buying groceries, etc. Laura has unfortunately been having to work still, but we are thankful that she still has a job. Many people in the US are out of work because of this. Staying home and not being allowed to congregate means a lot of things. Some of which include school being closed (since spring break), no church, etc.
That's the quick summary of it. How it started for us was during spring break, we had decided to go to Robber's Cave State Park for Connor's birthday present. While we were there, the news started breaking out and saying that this is something we need to take seriously. Of course, our stupid president didn't heed the warning as early as he could nor take any action even after. Anyway, in the middle of vacationing, it sort of hit us that we needed to prepare for this upcoming pandemic. I panic ordered some things from Amazon and we went to the grocery store near the state park to get some things before things got out of hand and everything was out of stock. We got a lot of stuff at the grocery store, but slowly, in the coming weeks, everything was going out of stock like crazy. People were starting to hoard paper products, with toilet paper being the notorious victim. Anyway, everyone's been stocking up and stuff. Things seemed to have plateaued for now, but because of it, it seems like states are beginning to "open up" again and I'm just waiting for the 2nd wave to come. We've pretty much been at home since spring break, going out for things like dropping off mail at the post office and dropping off things at friends and family/church. Laura has been picking up groceries for us on her way home from work and we've been using Walmart grocery and Instacart and stuff a lot. I don't know how long this is going to continue, but that's the life at the moment. My Mom seems to be doing fine given the circumstances, but I'm sure she's getting bored as well.
This week is the last week of school for the kids and they haven't gotten to go back at all. They've been using video software to do class at home. It's not the same, but it's something. Things are fore sure different right now. I don't know how summer is going to turn out, but we'll see. Graphs and predictions say that the low point of the curve should be around July, so let's hope that's correct.
Other than that, things have been harder around here since we just have to stay in. The kids seem to be doing good despite the rules. We've been playing a lot of the Switch lately as well. We got Animal Crossing and they've enjoyed that. The past 3 days, Laura's parent's have taken the kids to Tulsa to give us a break, so that's great. They're coming back home tomorrow.
Well, that's really all there is to say. It just sucks now and there's nothing we can do except to stay at home and hope the situation gets better.
